Qinggouzi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the Qinggouzi Country of Dunhua City, Jilin Province. It was named by the 1st Team under the Jilin Regional Geological Reconnaissance Party in 1978.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics and Volcanics. Composed largely of clastic and volcanic rocks with three members. Lower part, known as the Sandy Slate Member, is composed of grey-black silty slate and grey-white medium- and coarse-grained sandstones intercalated with micaceous slate with a thickness of 1243 m. Its basal part consists of grey-black silty slate. Middle part, known as the Volcanic-rock and Volcaniclastic-rock Member, is composed of dark-gray intermediate-acidic brecciated tuffaceous lava, andesite and tuffaceous sandstone, with a thickness of 303 m. Upper part, known as the Hornfels Sandy Slate Member, is composed of interbeds of biotite-, cordierite- and andalusite-hornstones and hornfels siltstone, with a thickness of 873 m. Total thickness is over 2419 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact with the underlying Kedao Fm
Upper contact
Unconformably overlapped by the Dalazi Fm of the Lower Cretaceous Series; or laterally transition (and partly overlain?) to the Kaishantun Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the areas of Qinggouzi and Xigou River to the north of Dunhua City.
GeoJSON
Fossils
The grey-black silty slate in its basal part yields members of the Angara flora such as the Iniopteris sibirica, Callipteris cf. zeilleri, Paracalamites, Compsopteris, Comia, Supaia, Noeggerathiopsis. The flora that it yields can be correlated with that occurring in the Sanjiaoshan Fm, Hongshan Fm in the Zhangguangcai Ridge area, and also with that occurring in the Suolun Fm in the Ulanhot region.
Age
Depositional setting
Basal part is interpreted as a lake-river facies.
